Agüeybaná II "El bravo" (The Brave), powerful taíno chief of Borikén. In the year 1511 he faced the Spanish invaders in the Battle of Yahueca in Adjuntas. The historian Jalil Sued Badillo affirms that the site in Caracoles in Ponce (1200 - 1500 AD) was the settlement of the first Borinqueño hero. In that same barrio, a statue that survived the fierce Hurricane María still stands.
